Why I joined Facebook
I joined Facebook in college when it was just a fun website where you could add everyone who was in your dorm. Since then, Facebook has opened its doors to over 400 million users and has let me keep in touch with relatives I would normally not even talk to. Since then I have added Twitter to my digital arsenal, and I made a correlation of the fact that its just like the Facebook status update bars but simplified. Also, I liked that you could tag others as part of your update, which Facebook picked up on and added as well. Now I can keep both statuses in sync. I also had no idea that when I joined Facebook, it would be a great way to keep in touch with my Mom. My parents moved to northern Wisconsin last year, and even tho I don't always call her and let her know whats going on in my life, she knows exactly what i'm up too (for better or worse) because of checking out my profile and status. I would be open to joining more sites in the future because of the positive experience I have had with my first social networking site.

Hi Katie..
ReplyDeleteFacebook is a great tool for just the things you described. Other than Twitter have you explored any other social media tools? How is delicious working out for you? I wrote in my blog http://courses.joyrobinson.com/ a quickie synopsis of why people love and hate Delicious. I am curious about your comments in light of your good experience with Facebook.

Hi Katie,
ReplyDeleteI also joined Facebook when I was in college (I think it was in 2005), and I never dreamed that I would stay connected with so many family members because of it. I'm friends with many cousins, aunts, and uncles who I rarely see/talk to, but I know what's going on in their lives thanks to this tool.
And thanks for posting those interesting statistics! It amazes me that the average person spends more than 55 minutes on Facebook per day!

Joy, I am on Linkedin and Foursquare but it hasn't caught on for me as much as Facebook and Twitter. I like Delicious just for the fact that I can access bookmarks from other computers other than my own. Normally I don't bookmark tho, if I have a good website, I usually post it to a profile to quickly access it again.
ReplyDeleteJessica, I know, I can't believe the average person spends that long on Facebook either. I like the part about the "like" button.
